ABOUT US

The David Hume Institute

The David Hume Institute is an independent, non-partisan, evidence-based think tank that has been operating at the heart of policy debate for over 35 years.

We are committed to delivering objective, evidence-based research about the economy and connected public policy challenges. We also host provocative, thoughtful discussions at events that are open to all.

The Action Project continues our commitment to rigorous, evidence-based research.  As well as bringing together people of all backgrounds from across Scotland in conversation, we checked findings independently with a ScotPulse population survey.

We started conversations; with people in different places, from different backgrounds and with different experiences and levels of engagement with policymaking. We asked questions, and listened. We wanted to hear people’s thoughts about action. In total over 4,500 people contributed to the research from all ages and backgrounds.

The Action Project has shown that people are ready to roll up their sleeves. In the coming months we will be publishing further findings and analysis from the research.

“What’s your action?” is our simple invitation to others to engage with that process, setting out what we heard in those conversations along with the practical actions we can all take to build a more prosperous, sustainable, inclusive and fair country.
